1. Watch a Movie at 321 Clementi
321 Clementi is a short walk from the Elta and has an impressive ten theatres showing the latest blockbusters and indie films at Cathay Cineplex. Pick one that can be enjoyed by the whole family, and head on down for movie day!
321 Clementi also has a rooftop garden and play area so you can take little ones to burn off some of that exuberant energy. In addition, there’s a private rooftop swimming pool and premium fitness centre that offer loads of wellness activities. Dining options range from casual cafes to specialty restaurants so you can grab a bite before or after your movie.
2. Visit Westgate Wonderland
Westgate is a short drive from the Elta, or just one stop away on the MRT. Open from 10 am to 10 pm daily, the impressive mall has an 11,000 square foot playground on its 4th floor designed by Adirondack Studios, a US theme park designer and Singapore-based playground expert, CT-Art.
The centrepiece of Westgate Wonderland is the ten-metre tall tree house, where kids can climb a series of nets crisscrossing the insides of the tree trunk. Next to the tree house, there’s a giant flower pot where kids can worm their way through nets, tunnels, and slides.
There’s also a toddler play area for the little ones. The best part? It’s all free!
Westgate also has an impressive range of dining and retail outlets so there’s something for everyone. Of course, no mall is complete without a food court, and Westgate’s Food Republic is where you’ll find all the local favorites.

3. Go for a Hike
What better way to bond than to enjoy the great outdoors together? Physical exercise not only strengthens the body, but it is also good for the soul, regardless of age.
For an easy, peaceful stroll, Jurong Lake is only a stop from Clementi and a walk around the lake is relatively flat. It should take about an hour, which is perfect for those with younger children. You can also hire paddle boats or kayaks for some fun on the water.
Those who want a little bit more can hit the many trails dotting the estate. Clementi is linked to several trails such as the Green Corridor, Rail Corridor, Clementi Forest Trail, and Maju Forest Trail. Go as far as you want and try getting creative with mixing and matching the trails and numerous park connectors!
4. Visit The Singapore Science Centre
A lot has changed in the Singapore Science Centre since our first outings there as part of a school excursion! This beloved facility has been greatly improved over the years and remains an important historical and cultural icon.
Now one of the top science centres worldwide, the SSC has an incredible array of activities that can keep you and your kids busy all day. You can check out an educational film in Omni Theatre, sign your kids up for one of the many workshops, or visit award-winning exhibitions.
If you’re in the mood for something a little more physical, hit the slopes at Snow City where kids can have fun skiing, tubing, and snowboarding.

5. Visit The Singapore Botanical Gardens
Another potential blast from the past for you is a visit to the Singapore Botanical Gardens. This spectacular garden has also come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1859. Now the first and only tropical garden listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list, this important botanical institute contains a massive range of tropical flora.
This extensive facility is separated into sections like the Ginger Garden, the National Orchid Garden, and a dedicated Children’s Garden. Getting through all of them will take several hours. Scattered around the facility are also numerous dining and retail options for a quick bite.
